Ref: Should I vote

Dear friends,

On Monday, most of us will be doing our civic duty by casting our vote. This is probably one of the most crucial Canadian elections. Your vote will really make a difference.

You may wish to stay with the Liberals you know, or you may be leaning towards "change" through the NDP or Conservatives. Each of these choices comes with consequences.

We have to think carefully about these and vote strategically!

Without a doubt, the NDP has demonstrated a real commitment to Canadian Muslims and empathy for their concerns. However, they have no chance of forming a government.

That leaves Canadian Muslims with only two real choices: The Liberal Party or Steven Harper's re-branded Reform/Alliance/Conservatives.

To choose between these two parties, we need to look at their track records, and decide which choice is truly in our interest, and in the interest of all Canadians.

Let us examine a couple of areas of vital concern to all of us: the economy and international relations.

No Canadian party has been without its scandals. But which one has the best track record for overall financial management? Is it the Conservatives, who under Brian Mulroney, promised to reduce our national deficit, but left the country in financial ruin? Or is the Liberal Party which eliminated those
deficits, reduced the cumulative national debt and has been managing your government with yearly surpluses.

Which party has the best track record for taking principled and even handed approaches to foreign policy? Which party has the best track record for supporting peaceful resolutions to international conflicts? Is it the Reform/Alliance/Conservative Party, which wants to spend billions of you tax
dollars to build a fighting army to help the "Bushites" build their Middle Eastern and Central Asian empire? Or is the Liberal Party which has consistently supported balanced and non-violent means of resolving the
conflict in Palestine, and opposed the completely unjustified attack on and occupation of Iraq?

DON'T WASTE YOUR VOTE! On Monday, June 28th, make your vote count for the kind Canada you want. Vote Liberal!

I have following suggestions:

1) Watch news daily especially Omni News, South Asian edition ( Rogers cable  CH 14)every night at 8 o clock. It will give you lots of information about political agendas of different parties. You can figure out who is going to be the best party for immigrants. Try to watch carefully their plans regarding hot issues and their policies to handle these after coming into power. Immigrants have been suffering a lot and you have to support that party who will spend money to help them to integrate into their professions and the canadian economy.

2) Know your previous MP and his way of communication with voters and also see to which party he belongs. If he belongs to the party that you like to vote and if he has been active in the community and with voters to solve their social issues, vote that person.

3) If you have time, participate in discussions of these meeting where these people give speeches. You will be able to decide who will be the best for you. If you see any immigrant running for the election and if he has a party ticket of one of the major parties that you like, vote that candidate. He will be a good voice for immigrants. But if he does not have a party ticket, his chances to win are very rare and you may lose your vote.

I commend this writer for very practical and helpful advice to the community. For those who are still
undecide about voting or not, think quickly. You may not be motivated to vote because of job commitments, or personal preferences. Think again. Employers are obliged by law to give you 3 consecutive hours time off to vote. Also there are agents of political parties at each polling station making a note of all names that have cast their vote. If in future you need help in your personal problems from your MP, he/she is more likely to help you fully if you have cast your vote. Vote is power. Use it.

Happy polling,

I reply of brother Saghir Ahmed mail........

Dear Brothers,
A general federal election has been called for June 28, 2004. Canada's 750,000 Muslims must realize that without political participation our lives and our communities will not change for the better. Many of us realized this in the post-9/11 environment. We have since become more involved in community affairs. We are now beginning to take our civic duties more seriously.

Assalamu Alykum from Muslim Vote

Goal 100% Muslims voting!

According to Statscan in 2000 Federal Election 49% of Muslims voted. One of the lowest group turnout. Lets make sure all our family and friends aged 18 years or older vote this time. Please forward this email to all of them.

My friend,

Your vote does not neccessarily have go to a muslim candidate. You know most of the muslim candidate are running for the Liberal party. If you know Liberal party supports Isreal and is against Pq\liustinian
people. The party has also brought in Bill C-36, which has put lot of muslims under detention. Please do not vote for a party that most muslim vote, becuase it is the ruling party. Vote for party that comes close to your idealogy our muslim idealolgy of Justice and equity.
