Ref: What kind of job we can get?

Dear Khalid,

I am a doctor, and let me tell u , jobs for doctors are very tough and so is for engineers. but its not
impossible . u will not get a related job in medicine , u are eighter a doctor or not a doctor no middle way. bu tin engineering yes people get job with out clearing licensing.

Life as a professional is tough beinga professional again is tough but not impossible. u should have a
very strong incentive to leave the country . If I could have enjoy an avarage life style i would never
come here.

I am not trying to dissappoint pls make sure u r really pissed of from where u are . or please dont
come here enjoy the kind of respect u both husband and wife have but if u really wano come I can guide about licensing  in medicine.

bye

This strikes me as an answer that may be true sometimes, but not all the time.

I came to Canada long time ago - 30 years. I did not speak the language, had a degree in
a "male" profession, my family had no money.

It took a long time - now my children are in their mid-twenties and love what they do, I have
a remarkable job assisting newcomer women and their children. I don't drive a Mercedes Benz,
I don't shop at Holt Renfrew's. In fact, I do shop at second-hand stores. I am very privileged
to live in the most accepting, diverse, peaceful country in the world.

I should like to propose that thinking long term and being glad for the small comforts is a good way to go through the settlement process. On the practical level - practicing good language skills is VERY important. Sloppy language with abbreviations is not going to help anyone.

If you land in Toronto, call us at 416-469-0196. We will be delighted to help.

All the very best in your future, wherever that may be.

Please surf www.onip.ca for information related to international professionals and transition jobs.

As an engineer you should also join CAPE (www.capeinfo.ca) and as a physician your wife should join AIPSO (www.aipso.ca) for information and support. You should also exlpore possibilities of employment in other provinces of Canada besides Ontario. Some other provinces offer better job opportunities than Ontario, specially for doctors and engineers. The websites and info can be obtained from onip website.

Dear Mr. Khalid,

As both of you are professionals, and it'll take some time to get yourselves in jobs related to
your fields as there is certification and upgradation processes involved. You can look into websites
for new immigrants which are couple of them, among those is www.settlement.org. You can

Dear Friend,

I am a family man with wife and two teenaged kids, boy and girl. I seem to be in the same boat as you accept that I had come back from Germany after my education. I am a printing technologist in the Offset technique and presently doing financials and marketing in Hyderabad.

I do hope to migrate to Canada in the likelihood of getting a profession in my field of printing. It may be a job or running my own printing shop. My wife will be retiring from her government job by the year 2006 in the teaching profession as Micro-Biology lecturer. My son will be completing his post-grad. in Masters in Computer Application and my daughter would be graduating in English, English Literature, Political Science with an apptitude in illustration and cartooning.

What is your advice and how do I go about it?
With regards and an earnest reply.

yours,

Ali Nazim Jafri < alinazim99@hotmail.com >

I am in Pakistan but will be migrating to Canada in couple of months.

From your email if i am not wrong it seems like that you also close to your retiremetn age, since your kids are grown up.

I have studied and worked in usa for 5 years. In my opinion if you are over 50 and migrating to Canada with what ever qualification then forget about getting a professional job. Your best bet will be either to start your own business, which again will be very demanding interms of working and financials or you can look for a job as a security guard etc.

Your kids may do better but that too after a very rough patch of 1-2 years.

Dear Awan sb.
If you are over 50, and well off in your country then it is not a good idea to migrate in Canada no matter who you are, you have to start from scratch here, in order to establish yourself. If  you want to give your kids higher and quality education then send them here for studies. Still if you want to come then prepare yourself against all odds. Good luck
